This position is for a relief (PRN) pharmacist working at the NMPHC Pharmacy in Ashland, MS. The Relief Pharmacist will fill in when the Staff Pharmacist is off work. There is no set schedule or guaranteed time with this position.
Under the indirect supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, the pharmacist is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care to health center patients. Accuracy, reliability and excellent customer service skills are the cornerstone of pharmacist expectations.
Responsibilities for Pharmacist
Process incoming new prescriptions, refills, and transfer requests
Ensure accuracy, safety, and efficacy of dispensed prescriptions through drug utilization review, interpretation of physician orders, and prescription verification
Contribute to providing timely quality care through collaborating and assisting the team in tasks as needed, including answering phones, counting prescriptions, checking out prescriptions, and any other functions required to provide quality care and service.
Organize and direct pharmacy workflow to provide the highest level of quality care and service.
Act as the manager on duty, supervise ancillary pharmacy staff engaged in preparing, packaging, and labeling prescriptions. Organize and direct technicians' work flow; verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, charges, and inspections.
Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Initiate prior authorization requests and resolves medication billing problems with insurance providers
Provide medication counseling to the patient, in compliance with OBRA ’90, to ensure accurate understanding of treatment purpose, duration, special instructions of use, and common adverse effects.
Ensure medication safety through educating patients and community on proper storage, and disposal of medication
Recommends and administers vaccines
Identifies patients with barriers to medication adherence and collaborates with them to reduce barriers and improve adherence
Utilize professional judgement to review medication interactions, contraindications, and disease state precautions, then makes appropriate recommendations to the prescriber to reduce risk and increase quality of medication treatment.
Exhibit corresponding responsibility in regard to controlled substance prescriptions.
Provide pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals.
Assist clinic staff in processing refill authorization requests, prior authorizations, and answering medication questions
Monitor medication therapy, reviews charts, and makes recommendations to providers when necessary to optimize patient care
Operates within regulations, policies, and procedures to maintain compliance within pharmacy operations, 340B program, medication quality assurance, security, and disposal of hazardous waste medications.
Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration
Bachelor of Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy
Current pharmacist license valid in Mississippi
Effective computer and keyboarding skills
Working knowledge of pharmacy information systems
Strong communication skills, both written and oral
Strong prioritization skills and an ability to make decisions independently and effectively
Able to operate equipment such as computers, scan guns, tablet counters, and cash registers
Familiarity with pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information, and proper drug handling and storage practices
